Corday Shaw

Side by Side was created with the aim of designing a welcoming and inclusive space for blind and visually impaired people, especially elderly visitors and guide dog users. I wanted the centre to feel more than just functional but a place where people could spend quality time with family and friends, build confidence, and feel connected with people who are blind and visuary impaired in the Lincolnshire area.

The project was inspired by the challenges many guide dog owners face when accessing public spaces, often being turned away from shops, restaurants, and other venues because of their dogs. This can leave people feeling isolated and less independent. Side by Side, provides an envrionment where both people and their guide dogs feel accepted, comfortable and be there for one another.
